This year 2019 witness the first edition of the Africa Track Cup organized by the Nigerian Federation of Cycling under the supervision of African Cycling Confederation (CAC) during the period 26 -28/07/2019 at the Abuja Velodrome. International Cycling Union support the development process in Africa by approving and registering the event in the UCI Calendar as class II.

The program of the Africa Cup composed of 09 races (Time Trial – Sprint – Team – Sprint – Individual Pursuit – Keirin – Omnium – Scratch – Point Race – Madison) for both women and men.

Eight Countries took part in the first edition namely: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria.

Team Nigeria have established their dominance on the continent after they clear the stable to emerge champions of the inaugural Africa Cup Track Cycling which ended in Abuja, over the weekend.

Nigeria won eight gold medals, seven silver and seven bronze to top the medal table of maiden Africa Cup Track Cycling held at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Nigeria shared their bikes with those nations who did not have bikes, enabling Burkina Faso, Ghana and Benin to win medals on DRAG bikes.

Egypt came second with eight gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals. Morocco finished third with four gold and three silver medals.

Burkina Faso also made it to the medals table with three 3 silver and 5 bronze, while Burundi and Ghana ended their campaign with two and one bronze medals respectively.
